DATA ANALYSIS

Always wondered the difference between data analysis and data analytics? For most people, differentiating between the two phrases is like splitting hairs, however, if you’ll sleep better tonight…here are a couple of ways to think of the two in comparison.

Data Analysis: a broad term that refers to the process of gathering data, separating it into components, and examining it for insights.

Data Analytics: taking the analyzed data and presenting it in a meaningful and useful way in hopes of informing decision making.

Think of analysis as looking back at the past to understand what has happened and analytics as looking forward to model or predict the future.

Forgive us if we use the terms interchangeably. We know that both aspects are critical to the success of any business and as we practice the art of data analysis, we believe it should be utilized to do a number of things:

  • Forecast outcomes and evaluate the effectiveness of marketing campaigns.

  • Identifies problem areas.

  • Inform content choices.

  • Determine the performance of a website, specific pages, CTAs, etc.

  • Understand how to modify a site to meet the needs of a target audience.
